![]() Through the Broome’s hard work, and the husband and wife team say the road to success hasn’t always been smooth but always worth the effort, nonetheless, Fish Tales has become a popular area restaurant that has even drawn customers from Australia and was recognized in 2013 by the Richmond Hill-Bryan County Chamber of Commerce as the Small Business of the Year. I did it because I wanted it to be a fun place where families could come to. We remodeled the building and Fish Tales became a reality. He called me and told me the lease was mine. So I went to Toby and asked if I could lease the place. I tried to buy the owner out but he didn’t want to sell. "I was looking for something to do and there was this small place here (later Fish Tales Restaurant). I have to always have something going," he said with a wide grin. "I guess I was driving her nuts during that time. Sherri opened a dog grooming business here in Richmond Hill called ‘Pawparazzi,’ which she sold after opening the restaurant. "So we sold that business and I didn’t to anything for about three years. I was doing everything from aerating and spraying the lawns to making sales calls to telemarketing the business. I had just enough money to open the doors. I got into the lawn care business here in Richmond Hill in 1998 by accident. One time, even Sherri told me I needed to find myself. "I worked very hard in those days and they very long days, too. We imported lace and crystal from England. I got into the T-shirt business and even the import business. I’ve sold insurance and even solar panels. I’ve been in every business in the world. My father, Gene, had a bunch of restaurants when I was growing up. But I left the family business when I was 20. The youthful-looking couple have been married for more than 35 years and have two sons, Max and Zach and two grandchildren, Marleigh, 3, and Macon, 9. I was disappointed but I just ordered the shrimp as well. After we ordered the server came up and said they were out of steak at 5:15 pm. My daughter and I decided to share the $28.99 steak dinner and a shrimp dinner so we could make our own surf and turf. (?) When we looked at the menu they had one steak to offer, only one. It was not crowded at all but we were seated in the sun. When we got there we were seated at a table on the water front outside. We saw an advertisement saying they had steaks and seafood. I certainly recommend Fish Tales for a nice dining experience.Īfter a long drive we were ready for a good meal. To me it seemed like it might draw from a more upscale customer base of young professionals and boaters but they sure treated this old, scruffy looking camper/boater well after arriving cold and tired. I found it clean and friendly and there were families dining there for a Sunday lunch. Yummy! Fish Tales seems to be a popular place in the area. I should have stopped there but Andy mentioned the Key Lime Pie and I had to have a slice of that. There were several items of interest on the menu, but I wanted the fried butterfly shrimp which came with plenty of seasoned french fries and a small cup of coleslaw. ![]() He was very knowledgeable of the menu items and checked with me frequently to see if I had any needs or questions. I sat outside and a young man named Andy serviced my table. You can sit inside if the weather is disagreeable or sit outside with a view of the water and the activities of the marina. This is one of those great little seaside (river) bars that you can find up and down the coast. Had pulled the boat from the water after being gone on a camping/hunting trip for 5 days.Was so glad that the restaurant was open for lunch as I was looking forward to something besides my own camp cooking. ![]()
